Patong Beach, located on the west coast of Phuket Island in Thailand, is a popular tourist destination
known for its nightlife, shopping, and beautiful beaches. If you’re planning a trip to Patong, here are
some recommendations for where to stay and what to do.
WHERE TO STAY
When it comes to accommodations, there are plenty of options to choose from in Patong. If you’re
looking for luxury, the 5-star hotels in the area offer top-notch amenities and breathtaking views of the
sea. All the way on the other end of the spectrum, if you’re on a budget, there are plenty of budget friendly hotels and guesthouses that are excellent choices. Right in the middle, if you want a great value and balance price with amenities, Patong Beach has a lot of 2.5 to 3-star hotel options such as the
Summer Breeze Hotel and the Yorkshire Inn Patong. Check out the Golden Whale Tours hotel page for a
list of great hotel options in this range.
Wherever you choose to stay, keep in mind the transportation costs in Phuket can be a bit of a shock
compared to the rest of Thailand. In fact, you may find most of the aggravation that you experience on
your trip to Phuket will be dealing with taxis, motorbike taxis, and tuktuk drivers. Ideally, you
strategically choose your hotel so it is within walking distance of many of things you will want or need to
do like go to the beach, restaurants, shopping, etc. Getting a taxi occasionally to head to the water park,
or spend a day at another beach makes sense, but having to take a taxi several times a day is not a great
value in Phuket.
WHAT TO DO
With such a wide variety of activities accessible on Patong Beach, there is something for everyone, day
or night. Check out some ideas for activities below and then make sure to think about where you want
to eat or drink as the sun starts going down.
Activities
If you are looking for a tropical vacation that packs a lot of activity options, when it comes to things to
do, Patong Beach is a great choice. The beach is a 3-kilometer stretch of white sand and clear blue
waters, perfect for swimming and getting a tan and maybe even trying out some water sports. You can
also rent a parasol and lounge chair for the day and soak up the sun.
**Tip: While there are several water sports operators on the beach that offer activities such as jet skiing
and parasailing and many probably offer a great service, just be careful of some well-known scams.
Phuket has a couple of really great water parks. Come all the way to Thailand to go to a waterpark? Yes!
Never thought I would say it, but it is a great way to spend a day to change things up.
Future blog posts will cover other Patong activities in more depth. In addition to beach and nightlife,
everywhere you look you can find small shops with souvenirs, clothing, and local crafts. Be ready to
haggle with vendors for the best prices. They expect it. Make it fun!
Also, you’ll find the typical tour packages that you can also do in other areas of Thailand. For example,
you can take an elephant trek through the jungle. Many hotel tour desks offer elephant trekking tours,
where you can ride an elephant through the jungle and take in the beautiful scenery. Another possibility
is taking a cooking class where you can learn how to cook traditional Thai dishes and visit local markets
to buy ingredients and learn about Thai cuisine. What are you interested in? You can probably do it in
Phuket.
Food and Drink
There are so many restaurant options on Patong Beach and the surrounding area. Italian, Chinese,
Middle Eastern, Greek, German, and of course many Thai restaurants. And most Thai restaurants will
also offer western food choices on their very expansive menus. What do you feel like having? You won’t
need to eat the same thing or visit the same restaurant twice your entire trip here, the choices are
endless. Walk around, don’t be surprised when you end up getting the best chicken, the best burger,
etc. that you have ever had after discovering a hidden gem of a restaurant.
For those who want to experience the nightlife, Patong is known for its lively bars and clubs. That’s an
understatement! We could write an entire blog post, or book, on the hundreds of beer bars and we may
just do that so keep checking back with us. Soi Bangla, the main street in Patong, is lined with bars and
clubs, and you can find anything from low end to high end. Beer bars, Irish pubs, and high end, highenergy nightclubs. If you’re looking for something more laid-back, you can also find many bars and
restaurants along the beach a short walk away from the buzz of Bangla.
In conclusion, Patong Beach is a great destination for those looking for a mix of relaxation, adventure,
and nightlife. Whether you’re looking for luxury accommodations or budget-friendly options, there is
something for everyone. The beach is a great place to start, but there are also plenty of other activities
to do, such as visiting temples, shopping at the night market, and taking cooking classes. And if you’re
looking for a good time at night, Patong has a vibrant nightlife scene. With all these things to do, you’ll
never run out of things to do in Patong Beach Phuket, Thailand.
